Busy, old weekend

What could possibly go wrong at the weekend?

After a busy week at the start of July, I finally finished all the assignment(sort of) that need to submitted before mid-July. So I can finally get myself back to work and earn some hard currency.

"Work hard, play hard", that didn't really work out in my opinion because human being is born greedy. If you have nothing, you will seek for something; when you have something, you will demand for more things. Started to get luxurious and meaningless to survival. That is what I think that defined human being are differ to the animals. Not the humanitarian bullshit that about we care, we love and we are intelligent.

This weekend, I started off the least unwanted route to drive I've got in my inventory list. It is still exhausting, pressurized, anxious. Some say I am an aggressive driver, I really don't look myself that way. All I want is a safe and a swift driving. Yes, I sometimes challenge myself some time limit. Yes, I sometimes recon myself can drive faster, but I still cannot be what those who're really fast does. Compressing driving time better than 7-zip compressing a file in the computer. I am not saying they're dangerous driving(Some of them are pretty dangerous but not lethal), but I just don't feel like comfortable to put anyone's life at risk.

At first, I really not sure should I talk about the bus I drove last Friday, but I guess I can't avoid talking it since it became a highlight to my bus captain journey in my life. I've been driving buses for 3-4 years so far, lucky me, I am at a time that buses are changing, not for passenger sides but driver sides. Diesel buses are still major party in the fleet but electricity buses are replacing them time by time. Friends know me knows that I am a petrol-head. Electric car are fast on acceleration, they have better fuel efficiency, they give more torque and power. However, do they really give the feeling of driving? Not really. Driving a traditional powered vehicle is another thing, it might be slow, it consume fuels that emit pollution, it has so many components inside that if any went wrong, you've no idea what went wrong. And I think that's the fun of driving, not a machine that you press and go.

Back to the topic, I drove a bus with the plate "NG2473", it's an old model Volvo bus, very close to retirement under Hong Kong's policy of commercial vehicles. It attracted so many people to photo shoot, and thanks to my friend that I can have a glance of how I drive the old bus. Driving a bus with analog dashboard always feel special in today's Hong Kong. You've to rely on every needle, every instruments, and most of all, you have to trust them. It is something you can't experience on a digital dashboard, all the thing is fancy and too accurate, especially on Volvo, the speedometer gives you the speed to 1 decimal space. It is not a bad thing, maybe it is because I am getting old and being nostalgic. Still, it's a good fun driving that bus and who knows what's next?
